Selena Gomez opens up about her battle with lupus

There had been rumors flying around in the last few years that Selena Gomez had lupus, but those rumors were never confirmed, that is, until this year. Selena talked to Billboard this past October and opened up about her lupus diagnosis and how she went through chemotherapy.

Speaking to Billboard, Selena said: “I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke. I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re assholes.’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”

Selena has been announced as one of Billboard’s Women in Music for 2015. In her interview with Billboard, she opened up about her battle with lupus and how the whole thing still makes her a little uncomfortable. “It has been overwhelming and the response has been very supportive, which is nice, but it still makes me a little uncomfortable,” she said. “I waited for the right time to talk about it because I am in a great place and I’m very healthy. I’m not trying to be loud about it: It was time to use my platform to help.”

As well as talking about her lupus diagnosis, Selena also talked about The Wizard of Oz, one of her favorite album covers, Meryl Streep, and how good 2015 was. You can read more here.
