R. Kelly Asks To Re-Open Heather Williams Assault Case Due To His Learning Disability

According to a report from Vibe.com, R. Kelly lost his sexual assault case by default after failing to show up in court. TMZ reports that the controversial R & B singer, is unable to read due to a learning disability, and for that reason, was unable to appear in court.

Both of the singer’s attornies, Raed Shalabi, and Zaid Abdallah, claimed the singer was in a Cook County jail in Chicago for a different incident at the time he was given the papers for the suit. The suit claims he molested Heather Williams when she was 16-years-old.

The outlet, who obtained the official documents, states that Kelly “suffers from a learning disability that adversely affects his ability to read.” His lawyers claimed the “Bump N’ Grind” artist was unable to read the documents and was thus unable to appear.

The documents should’ve been delivered to either his house at the Trump Towers, or to his lawyers. Williams’ lawyer claimed they tried to deliver the documents, but was unable to, due to his intense security that wouldn’t allow them on the premises.

Kelly’s legal team urged the judge to allow them to re-open the case and prepare a more appropriate and better defense. As it was previously reported, R. Kelly has found himself in considerable hot water following the allegations that re-surfaced in the Lifetime docu-series, Surviving R. Kelly.

In the tail-end of the #MeToo movement, the docu-series aired and instantaneously appeared to change the singer’s reputation. It was back in 2017, however, when BuzzFeed first began accusing the singer of holding women in a “s*x-cult.”

However, one of the girls supposedly in the “cult,” later came out on social media, specifically YouTube, and said the allegations against R. Kelly were ridiculous and she wasn’t being held against her will.

The accusations against R. Kelly span decades, with perhaps the original one going back to his illegal marriage to 15-year-old, Aaliyah, when he was 27-years-old. His tour manager, Demetrius Smith, supposedly obtained the falsified documents which stated her age was 18-years-old rather than 15-years-old.

Kelly was also accused of creating child pornography, however, he was acquitted on all charges due to the inability of prosecutors to prove it was actually Kelly on the videotape.
